Isamu, a 65-year-old retiree, received the shocking news that his son Masuo, who was 45 years old and married to Aoi, was diagnosed with a terminal illness and had only half a year to live. To make matters worse, Aoi, who was also the mother of their 2-year-old daughter, had been sentenced by a doctor to live in a quiet residential area because of her condition.
Masuo and Aoi had decided to move in with Isamu, their father-in-law, who lived in a quiet residential area. Isamu was a strong, courageous man who had worked hard all his life and was now retired.
