Chitose had always prided herself on being an exceptional educator, and it showed in the way she dedicated countless hours to coaxing recalcitrant students back into the classroom. But lately, there had been one particular group that presented a unique challenge – a band of rowdy teenage boys who seemed determined to avoid their studies at all costs. It wasn’t until she began making daily visits to their homes that she realized just how dire their situation truly was.
The first time she knocked on the door of their ramshackle house, Chitose could hear the sound of rustling papers and muffled curses coming from inside. She knew immediately that this would be no easy task. The fatherless family was living in squalor, strewn with empty bottles and cigarette packs littered the floorboards.
