Yumi Kazama was a mother living alone with her college student son. She had always been a bit of an outsider, never quite fitting in with the other mothers at school events or in the neighborhood. But she didn’t let that get her down. Instead, she threw herself into her work as a nurse, pouring all of her energy into caring for others.
One day, while working on a ward, Yumi met a young woman named Rina. Rina was struggling to make ends meet and was worried about how she would be able to afford the care that her sick father needed. Yumi felt for her and offered to help in any way she could. They quickly became friends, bonding over their shared struggles as single mothers.
As they spent more time together, Yumi found herself drawn to Rina’s innocence and vulnerability. She couldn’t help but feel protective of her, and before she knew it, she was confiding in Rina about her own problems with her son. She told her about the fights they would have over money, and how she felt like she was losing him to his friends and their wealthy families.
